Our approach

3D SCANNING TECHNOLOGY

Artefacts are scanned using portable structured light scanners and analysed using 3D geometric morphometric approaches to quantify and compare shape and feature variability.

TECHNOLOGICAL ANALYSIS

A detailed chaîne opératoire analysis with a focus on manufacturing techniques is applied at different scales (macro and/or micro depending on the material)

EXPERIMENTAL ARCHAEOLOGY

Experimental archaeology sheds light on all the technical options potentially available to past craftsmen. Experimental productions are compared to archaeological finds using multivariate analysis and three-dimensional approaches, as well as chemical analysis (especially for mineral ores and glue micro-residues).

MICROWEAR ANALYSIS

With the support of external collaborators, we use microwear analysis to decipher usewear and reconstruct how artefacts were used after a thorough evaluation of the impact of post-depositional processes on the surface of artefacts at the microscopic scale.
